Space Saving Idea: Board Games Storage

We love board games, and would prefer the kids play them first before resorting to screen.  We needed a good way to store them so that the kids could easily take them out and pack them away.

Board games come in a range of sizes.  The challenge is to make all of them accessible (ie no double stacking in height or depth).  As they are various sizes, they can appear messy if left in open storage.

We decided to have the board games in the living room, and incorporated them into the living room storage that supported the TV.

Board Game Storage And Organizing Systems With Display Shelf Units

The quest for an affordable yet versatile storage solution led us to the off-the-shelf wonder of the IKEA Besta system. Given its adaptability, we have utilized this system in various settings throughout our home, from the living room to the bedroom wardrobes. This cost-effective choice allowed us to address our primary concern: providing easy access for the kids to take out and pack away their beloved board games.

Storage come in two main types: those with cupboard doors and those without.

Store Your Favourite Board Games On Display

As cost was a big consideration, we used the off the shelf IKEA Besta system.  This is a pretty versatile system we have used over the years in various settings including: living room, kitchen, laundry, garage and bedroom wardrobes. The IKEA Besta system’s open shelf design allowed us to turn our board games into a visual showcase, adding an aesthetically pleasing touch to our living room storage.

Using IKEA Shelf Inserts And Drawers For Hidden Board Game Storage

The IKEA Besta is 400mm deep, which can accommodate the deeper board games. To enhance accessibility, we invested in additional shelving, eliminating the need for vertical stacking that often leads to a cluttered appearance. We also utilized additional drawers and fabric containers to store board game boxes. This approach not only kept our collection organized but also prevented the frustration of searching for a specific game buried beneath others.

Adjustable Shelving With IKEA Collection – Besta And Kallax Cube Storage

We bought additional shelving so that more board games could be accessible, and not vertically stacked.

Customise Shelving Units To Showcase Your Favourite Games

We incorporated a mini drawer system that allowed all the smaller games to have individual shelving.  That allowed all the games to be accessible and not doubled stacked horizontally. his customization not only optimized the use of space but also turned our board game collection into a curated display that reflected our family’s unique preferences.

Utilizing IKEA Kallax For Cube Storage And Shelf Units

For those seeking an alternative, the IKEA Kallax shelving unit presents an equally effective option for board game storage. Its cube storage design allows for easy customization, offering a versatile solution that can be adapted to fit various room layouts and decor styles. Whether you opt for the IKEA Besta organiser or the IKEA Kallax shelf, both collections showcase IKEA commitment to providing storage unit solutions that balance functionality, style, and affordability.

Store Board Game Collections With Integration into Living Room Storage

We screwed the IKEA Besta’s together, and framed the overall unit in plywood.  The gave the storage a custom look, even though it was an assembly of cheap cupboards. In addition to the IKEA Besta shelves, you could use the IKEA Kallax collection just as effectively.

In conclusion, IKEA’s versatile storage solutions, including the Besta and Kallax collections, redefine game storage ideas, offering stylish alternatives for every board game enthusiast. Whether it’s the adjustable cube shelves of the Kallax or the sleek design of the Besta cabinet, IKEA provides a plethora of options to cater to your collection of games. Transforming a simple shelf into a curated bookshelf or a functional holder with lids, these IKEA designs limit clutter while maximizing style.
